One of Our Own

Sailing fans….our local sailor Savannah Taylor was in France competing on a Canada college team in match racing on Grand Surprise 34 ft keelboats for 10 days. After some grueling races, they had a fabulous showing, placing 2nd overall. An excellent achievement for our team in an international competition. Congratulations Savannah and the Canadian team.

Savannah and Lawrence Taylor also participated in this year’s Newport to Bermuda Race!  They and the shore crew of the Hard Eight, having worked tirelessly to get the boat in race trim, finished the race in 3 days, 10hr, 49m and 20 s, achieving 5th place in their class, against some very tough competition.

These are just the latest in Savannah’s long list of achievements. She has taken the fundamental skills that she has learned as a long time participant in the SSSA Learn to Sail Program and expanded on them as her career as a helmsperson and skipper has taken off. Congratulations go out to Savannah and her team….we are all very proud.
